Located in the Heart of Peoria’s Warehouse District

Builders Warehouse was the first retailer to show faith in Peoria’s Warehouse District when it opened at 812 SW Washington Street in 1997. Through the years, President John Coker encouraged other businesses to grow and use the downtown district. It’s now a vibrant, mixed-use residential and commercial neighborhood with cultural and entertainment venues.

“It has been exciting seeing the development in this area for Peoria, and I was proud to offer an anchor business that helped draw people to Washington Street,” Coker says.

Coker remains committed to the downtown district.

Builders Warehouse’s new location at 2115 SW Washington Street – opening in January 2020 – is in an old tractor supply store just five blocks from the original location. The 812 SW Washington space will be remodeled into apartments.

The new location offers greater customer convenience, with a large parking lot and better accessibility. The showroom is open and on one floor instead of being spread across four floors. And while the company’s tag line used to be “No Heat … No Air … Just Low Prices!” – the new store has heating and air-conditioning for customers’ comfort year-round.
And … you’ll still enjoy the same low prices!

BATHROOM DESIGN AND RENOVATION

  • Why should I remodel my bathroom?

Updating a bathroom is a home improvement project that will increase your home’s value. But more importantly, it will improve the flow of your space and provide a retreat where you’ll enjoy spending time. When you replace outdated vanities and flooring, and modernize fixtures, you’ll improve both the aesthetic and function of your bathroom.

  • I’m not ready for a full bathroom remodel. What one project do you recommend?

One place to start is updating your bathroom fixtures, including your sink, faucet, toilet, and lighting. Those simple changes can make a major difference, and then you can tackle bigger projects as your time or budget allow. Putting in porcelain or ceramic flooring is another way to instantly update your bathroom.

  • Vessel sinks are popular now. What are the advantages?

The main advantage is the “wow” factor you can add in your bathroom, with some vessel bowls that look like a work of art on your vanity. In addition to style, vessel sinks also increase counter space, are easy to install and can be changed out easily. Check out our vessel bowl options on our Bathrooms  page.

KITCHEN DESIGN AND RENOVATION

  • How quickly can we get our kitchen cabinets from Builders Warehouse?

We have the largest selection of in-stock kitchen cabinets in Central Illinois, so you’ll have a great chance to find the style you want and get them in your home quickly. We can special order your cabinets, too, but of course that process will take more time. View our kitchen cabinet options.

  • What cabinet style is the most popular right now?

The style of cabinet that you choose depends on your personal taste, and you should look at multiple options before making your decision. But the cabinet style that’s popular now is a maple cabinet with a gray stain. View our in-stock cabinet colors and styles.

  • Is refacing cabinets a good option if your budget is tight?

Refacing means that instead of installing entirely new cabinets, you replace the cabinet doors, drawer fronts, and hardware, and apply a new veneer over the original surface that remains. We don’t recommend refacing because it’s not going to save as much money as you think and you might not like the result, especially if you’re doing it as a DIY project. You’ll be more satisfied with new cabinets, and at Builders Warehouse, you’ll get them for a great price.

LIGHTING

  • What kind of lighting should I use in my bathroom?

When you shop for bathroom lighting, illuminate your vanity with a vanity light fixture over your mirror or a pair of vertical sconces on each side. In addition to that task lighting, also consider a mounted ceiling light for general brightness. You might need accent lighting to create another layer of light. Browse some of our lighting options here or come into our showroom for more choices.

  • What kind of lighting should I use in my kitchen?

Pendant lighting can make a bold statement over your kitchen island or dining table, and you have plenty of interesting choices, from classic, sleek, and modern to the raw and mechanical look of industrial lights. Of course, you also need general ambient lighting, which can be achieved with an overhead or ceiling light. At Builders Warehouse, we have the lights you need for your kitchen lighting updates. View our selection.

  • What kind of lighting works best in hallways?

Wall-mounted lights and ceiling lights are both good options to keep your hallways well-lit, especially if the hallways are narrow. Certain pendant lights will work in a hallway, too, if you’re trying to make a statement and the ceilings are high enough.

TILE & FLOORING

  • Should we install tile or vinyl flooring?

The answer depends on your personal taste and where the floors are being installed. You can’t go wrong with either choice; both are durable and water-resistant. If you want a hardwood look without the expense, you can get both vinyl plank floating floors and ceramic glazed tile that look like wood. For the kitchen and bathroom, tile is the most popular option and you can get the rich look of marble or slate. View our flooring options

  • What type of flooring do you recommend in the bathroom?

Replacing your bathroom flooring is a great way to update the overall appearance of the room. Porcelain or ceramic glazed tile is inexpensive and can have the luxurious look of marble, slate, or wood. It’s waterproof and stands up to any level of moisture, which is a must in any bathroom. Browse our tile flooring options

  • What should I consider when choosing a backsplash design?

If anything in your kitchen is tied to your personality, it’s your backsplash. Your choice of color and pattern says a lot about you, your personality, and your style. At Builders Warehouse, we have hundreds of backsplash options, so it can be overwhelming. Have some fun and choose something that speaks to you. But also think about whether it’s going to complement your countertops and the rest of your kitchen design.

COUNTERTOPS

  • What’s the difference between laminate, quartz, granite, and solid surface countertops?

All four surfaces are great options for your kitchen and bathroom countertops, and the material you choose is largely up to your personal taste. Granite is natural stone, which means every piece is unique. Quartz is a man-made surface with a more uniform color and patterning. Solid surface countertops are made of acrylic or polyester plastics and have a matte finish. Laminate countertops have patterns and colors that are printed on a fiberglass backing, with visible seams. View our wide selection of countertops

  • How should I clean my new countertops?

Granite: For everyday cleaning, use mild soap and warm water and shine the natural stone with a microfiber towel. Avoid harsh chemicals and acidic cleaning products. Be sure to get your granite countertop sealed, and resealed as needed, to prevent stains.

Quartz: Just like granite, use mild soap and warm water. Because quartz countertops are largely stain-resistant, there’s no need to apply a sealant. If you do spot a mark, using glass cleaner on a nonabrasive sponge should do the trick.

Solid Surface: Wipe your counters with a damp microfiber cloth for everyday cleaning. If you have heavier grime or stains, use mild soap and warm water or ammonia-based glass or general-purpose cleaners, and towel dry.

Laminate: Use a damp, soft cloth and a mild household cleaner for everyday cleaning. Don’t use harsh cleaning products, steel wool, or scouring pads.

  • Does Builders Warehouse offer countertop installation?

Yes! We take you through the entire process, from selecting the type of material, color, and pattern to fabricating your countertops, accurately measuring your space, and handling the installation – so all you do is enjoy them!
