DIY Home Projects - The Mudroom
John Coker • June 11, 2020

At Builders Warehouse, we know that many of you are stuck at home right now. If you're looking for something else to do, we suggest that you make the most of this time and tackle home improvement projects that will pay off in the long run. One area that's perfect for some extra attention and your DIY skills is the mudroom.
The mudroom is where you enter the house, and as a result it can get a bit messy and disorganized. At the same time, it might be someone's first impression of your home's interior. This sets up a conflict, because you want to make a good first impression when someone sees your home! Fortunately, a bit of extra work on your mudroom can make a big difference and your guests will certainly notice the improvements you make.
Storage
Adding storage is one of the best ways to revitalize your mudroom. You can add in cubbies or organize the closet. Make designated spaces for each family member so that you can stay organized, or at least call out the one family member who won't put their stuff away properly!
Add Color
A mudroom is supposed to be functional, but that doesn't mean that it can't look great too. Add some color to your mudroom with brighter cabinetry or new flooring. You could repaint the walls too. Even a rug or two can make your mudroom a lot more welcoming.
Add a Seating Area
Adding somewhere comfortable to sit is also a great idea. It offers everyone a great space to put on or take off shoes, and you can even opt for unique seating options that offer more storage underneath. You won't regret taking the extra effort and making the most out of the space in your mudroom.
Pick a Theme
You can also choose to go for a certain theme when redesigning your mudroom. Because it's kind of a unique room compared to the rest of your home, you could even opt for a theme that doesn't quite fit or even conflicts with other rooms of your house. You can choose to make your mudroom warm and comfy, with summer hues and comfortable seating, or soft and serene with lighter shades of blue and green. Modern, clean looks also work great for mudrooms, if you keep them clean.
New Flooring
New flooring can also make a big difference in your mudroom. Vinyl flooring or tile flooring can be great options, due to their resistance to mud and anything else that can be tracked in from the outside. While this may be a bit outside your DIY capabilities, we can help you install new flooring in your mudroom and help you choose an option that's easy to keep clean.
