Rejuvenate Your Space With a DIY Backsplash

If you're stuck at home, you might need a project to keep you occupied. Why not design a new kitchen or bathroom backsplash? A good backsplash can take your bathroom or kitchen design
to the next level, and the experts here at Builders Warehouse have more than a few suggestions on what materials you can use to make a unique backsplash of your own.
What's a Backsplash?
A kitchen backsplash is located on the kitchen wall between your countertop and wall cabinets. It's designed to protect your walls from moisture and staining. It can be made from a wide range of materials, but the main trait they share is that they're easy to clean. So if you get food or something on the backsplash, the wall is protected and it's simple enough to clean up after your food prep is done.
A bathroom backsplash essentially serves the same function, but because you're mostly just dealing with water, the materials you can use are a bit more varied. Food stains, for example, are not likely going to be an issue for a bathroom backsplash.
Materials You Can Use
Wood
There are many materials that make for an attractive kitchen, and wood is one of our favorite options. Reclaimed wood from old shipping pallets is inexpensive and can help give your kitchen a stylish, rustic look. Just clean the wood and cut it into smaller pieces to make yourself a new kitchen backsplash.
Wine Cork
Wine corks are another great option for a kitchen backsplash. They're easy to clean and come in a variety of shades and colors, making it easy to build a backsplash that matches or contrasts with your kitchen countertops. Just glue the corks to a board and attach the board to the wall behind your sink.
Vinyl Wallpaper
Normally wallpaper would sound like a poor option for a backsplash—paper doesn't stand up well to moisture after all. Fortunately, vinyl wallpaper can do the job just fine, allowing you to add a splash of color and even a pattern of your choice to your kitchen or bathroom.
Glass
If you really want to add a splash of color to your kitchen or bathroom with a backsplash, your best option just might be painted glass. You can go with a bright color since a backsplash isn't that massive and it won't overwhelm the room. Bright shades of blue, green, or even pink can work depending on the wall tile and other aspects of your kitchen or bathroom design.
Stone
Stones of different sizes, shapes, and colors can all be used together to create a truly unique backsplash that can complement any type of kitchen or bathroom design. If you want to create an interesting backsplash with plenty of contrasts, this is the way to go.
